Most watch brands treat color as a finishing touch — the last decision made once the case, dial architecture, and movement are locked in. Sartory-Billard's new SB04-E Nuances flips that order entirely. Here, color isn't decoration; it's the design brief. The result is a Swiss automatic watch that asks you to slow down and actually look, because a single hue, it turns out, is never really just one color.
Launched in July 2026 as a permanent addition to the Sartory-Billard catalogue, Nuances is the independent French atelier's take on the everyday luxury watch — refined enough for the details it's known for, versatile enough to wear daily.
Three colorways headline the launch: a forest-inspired green running from deep saturation to emerald highlights, a sea-inspired blue moving between steel and navy, and a red spanning vivid crimson to burgundy, echoing the shifting tones of a glass of French wine. Each is paired with a perfectly matching rubber strap, because in this collection, color is meant to be worn without compromise.
The numerals are applied directly onto the dial rather than sitting on a separate sapphire disc, reinforcing the sense of depth and letting the color read as continuous rather than interrupted. The typeface itself was custom-designed for Sartory-Billard by Simon Schmidt (also responsible for the numerals on the brand's SB10 collection), with elongated, Art Deco–influenced proportions and the brand's now-signature Y-shaped hour markers.
The hands complete the picture: polished, concave, and shaped like a fountain pen nib, filled with Super-LumiNova® for legibility in low light while echoing the dial's own curvature. A polished chapter ring frames the whole composition.
For those who want more versatility, an optional stainless-steel bracelet is available, alternating brushed and polished links to mirror the case finishing. It's built with quick-release pins for fast strap swaps, half-links for fine sizing adjustments, and a three-fold clasp for secure, comfortable wear.
First deliveries are scheduled for October 2026. EU customers see VAT included at checkout with no surprises on delivery; US and international buyers should note that duties and import taxes are calculated separately, DAP (Delivered At Place).
If you're drawn to watches that reward a second look rather than shouting for a first one, the red colorway is worth spending time with. You can explore the full details and configure your own on the official Sartory-Billard product page.

The Idea: One Color, Endless Depth
The concept behind Nuances is disarmingly simple. Look closely at a forest, an ocean, or a glass of red wine, and you'll notice that no single color is ever truly uniform — it shifts with light, angle, and mood. Sartory-Billard built an entire watch around that observation, choosing to explore one dominant hue per model rather than spreading color thin across multiple accents.
It's also a nod to the brand's bespoke roots. Long before Nuances existed, Sartory-Billard's custom commissions began with swatches, Pantone references, and long conversations about color between client and atelier. Nuances distills that philosophy into a ready-to-wear collection — no consultation required, just a shade that already feels like yours.

A Dial Engineered to Show Off the Color
Getting color right meant rethinking the dial itself. The SB04-E Nuances uses a slightly concave, sunray-brushed surface that radiates from the centre outward, finished with a fumé gradient that deepens toward the edge. As light moves across it, the dial genuinely looks different depending on the angle — which is the entire point. The hands complete the picture: polished, concave, and shaped like a fountain pen nib, filled with Super-LumiNova® for legibility in low light while echoing the dial's own curvature. A polished chapter ring frames the whole composition.
Case, Proportions and Finish
The case is where restraint meets craftsmanship. At 39.5 mm across and just 10.2 mm thick, the SB04-E Nuances sits comfortably under a cuff, while a 44 mm lug-to-lug keeps it wearable across most wrist sizes. Stainless steel throughout, the case alternates polished and brushed surfaces — a finishing technique that plays well with the dial's own light-catching gradient, making the whole watch feel like one continuous study in contrast and reflection.Inside: A Genuine Swiss Automatic Movement
Powering the SB04-E Nuances is a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101A automatic calibre, delivering a robust 68-hour power reserve — enough to sit in a watch box over a weekend and still be ticking on Monday morning. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres, giving the watch enough everyday durability for travel, rain, or the occasional swim, without pretending to be a dive watch.Strap and Bracelet Options
Every SB04-E Nuances ships on a Sartory-Billard rubber strap color-matched to its dial, secured with a logo pin buckle — the pairing the brand designed the watch around. For those who want more versatility, an optional stainless-steel bracelet is available, alternating brushed and polished links to mirror the case finishing. Who It's For
The SB04-E Nuances is aimed squarely at collectors who want an independent, Swiss-movement watch that doesn't look like everything else on the wrist-check forums. It's a daily watch in the truest sense — built to be worn often enough that its owner develops a real relationship with it — while still carrying the finishing details and bespoke DNA that Sartory-Billard has built its reputation on.If you're drawn to watches that reward a second look rather than shouting for a first one, the red colorway is worth spending time with.
