Our Restoration Process
Each restoration begins with a complete disassembly of the watch into its individual components. Every part is carefully cleaned, inspected, and, when necessary, replaced with genuine original parts. We then reassemble, lubricate, and regulate the movement to the manufacturer’s specifications before thorough testing and calibration.
Typical Stages of Vintage Watch Restoration
1. Basic maintenance of the movement:
The watch movement is fully dismantled, cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted to ensure smooth operation and precise timekeeping.
2. Repair or Replacement of Components
Any worn, damaged, or corroded parts are carefully repaired or replaced using authentic or compatible components to restore the watch’s functionality.
3. Dial Refinishing and Restoration
The dial may undergo refinishing to correct discoloration, faded text, or patina while maintaining its original aesthetic and character.
4. Crystal Replacement or Polishing
The crystal—protecting the dial and movement—is either polished or replaced to restore clarity and brilliance.
5. Case and Bracelet Refinishing
The case and bracelet are meticulously refinished to remove scratches, dents, or blemishes, reviving the watch’s original luster and form.
6. Water Resistance Testing
If originally designed for water resistance, seals are replaced and pressure-tested. For delicate vintage watches from the 1950s–60s, we recommend keeping them dry to preserve longevity.
7. Accuracy Testing & Final Inspection
After reassembly, each timepiece undergoes a 48–72-hour precision test to ensure accuracy, stability, and reliable performance.
At Swiss & Vintage, our goal is to honor the craftsmanship of the past while giving your watch a timeless future.
